Chicago - Detroit - Ohio town
Depart from Chicago and drive to Detroit, the largest city in Michigan and the world's traditional automobile center and music capital. Visit Henry Ford Museum (optional, 60 mins), a large historical museum complex built in 1929 to preserve American history with indoor and outdoor exhibition areas, IMAX theaters, and Green Village. Visit General Motors Headquarters (outside visit, 30 mins), one of the largest automobile companies, located on the Detroit River with seven buildings built in the 1970s at a cost of $500 million, showcasing classic and high-end car models. Drive to Ohio town for overnight.
Ohio town - Pittsburgh - Washington D.C. - Baltimore
Drive from Ohio town to Pittsburgh (65mi, 1 hour 10 mins). Visit Point State Park (30 mins), a 36-acre state park at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers forming the Ohio River, important military strategic site in mid-18th century. Drive to Washington D.C. (250mi, 4 hours 10 mins). Visit U.S. Capitol and National Archives (optional, 2 hours), including exterior views of the Supreme Court and Library of Congress. The Capitol is the political center of the US and home to Congress. The National Archives houses precious documents including the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, and Bill of Rights. Visit White House (outside visit, 30 mins), a white neoclassical sandstone building covering over 73,000 square meters, office and residence of US presidents. Visit Lincoln Memorial and Vietnam Veterans Memorial (45 mins). Lincoln Memorial is a white ancient Greek temple-style building built to commemorate President Abraham Lincoln, famous as the site of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech. Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a 500-foot-long V-shaped black granite monument with names of over 57,000 US soldiers who died in Vietnam War (1959-1975). Drive to Baltimore (45mi, 50 mins) for overnight. Note: If unable to enter U.S. Capitol, attractions replaced with Washington D.C. Baltimore - Philadelphia - Princeton - New York
Depart from Baltimore and visit Baltimore Inner Harbor (30 mins), originally a wharf transformed into comprehensive sightseeing, entertainment and shopping place, featuring glass pyramid-shaped National Aquarium, Top of the World Observation Center, and Chesapeake Bay crabs and oysters. Drive to Philadelphia (100mi, 1 hour 40 mins). Visit Independence National Historical Park (1 hour), including Independence Hall and Liberty Bell, known as "the most historic square mile in the United States," containing historical buildings related to American Revolution and founding of the country. Drive to Princeton University (45mi, 50 mins). Tour Princeton University (45 mins), one of eight Ivy League schools and famous private university with beautiful Gothic Revival-style buildings built in late 19th and early 20th centuries. Nassau Hall is the main administrative building built in 1756. Drive to New York (55mi, 1 hour 10 mins). Optional New York Night Tour featuring Rockefeller Center (considered best night view of NYC skyline, declared NYC landmark in 1985 and National Historic Landmark in 1987), trendy Dumbo's cobblestone streets and converted Brooklyn warehouse buildings with boutiques, restaurants and cafes.
New York City Tour
Full day New York City tour. Optional attractions: One World Trade Center Observatory (70 mins) - also known as "Freedom Tower" at 1,776 feet (tallest building in US, third tallest in world), commemorating Declaration of Independence signing in 1776, featuring video welcome messages, "Voices" and "Foundations" exhibits, virtual time-lapse elevators, video displays, and 360-degree Discovery Level views. Binghamton - Niagara Falls - Erie
Niagara Falls is a group of three waterfalls at southern end of Niagara Gorge spanning the border between Ontario, Canada and New York, USA, formed by Niagara River draining Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, with highest flow rate of any waterfall in North America with vertical drop over 50m. Drive from Binghamton to Niagara Falls (240mi, 3 hours 50 mins). Summer Itinerary (when Maid of the Mist opens): Niagara Falls Classic Tour (optional, 2.5 hours) including Whirlpool Park, Cave of the Winds, and Maid of the Mist. Winter Itinerary (when Maid of the Mist closes): Niagara Falls Classic Tour (optional, 2.5 hours) including Whirlpool Park, Cave of the Winds, and Old Fort Niagara State Park. Niagara Whirlpool State Park - 125 feet deep whirlpool formed by water erosion 7,500 years ago where Niagara River turns northeast from northwest, rapid water flowing back forms huge whirlpool, quiet park with barbecue pits and picnic tables overlooking whirlpool. Maid of the Mist - monumental boat trip since 1846, no better way to experience Niagara Falls, put on blue raincoat and aboard dreamy boat experiencing refreshing mist, surging waves, roaring waterfalls produced by over 2 million liters water per second, skilled captains sailing safely for over 100 years carrying tens of millions of tourists. Cave of the Winds - entrance on Goat Island with small museum and cinema, take elevator down 53 meters into Niagara Gorge cave to valley bottom, standing at foot of falls looking up seeing falls rushing with overwhelming momentum. Old Fort Niagara State Park (winter alternative) - War Fort tourist attraction of historical value at mouth of Niagara River before US independence, important in Indian-French War, American Independence War, Anglo-American War, behind it vast Lake Ontario one of five Great Lakes. Drive to Erie hotel (120mi, 2 hours 40 mins). Note: Maid of the Mist usually closed in winter season.
Erie - Cleveland - Chicago
Drive from Erie to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (105mi, 1 hour 40 mins). Visit Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (optional, 30 mins), located on shores of Lake Erie one of five Great Lakes, dedicated to celebrated and influential artists, producers, engineers in music industry, 150,000 square foot museum with seven floors and four theaters for films, special events, free public programs, and changing exhibitions featuring records and performance costumes of well-known music stars. Drive back to Chicago (350mi, 6 hours).
