Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Pick-up
Free airport pickup service provided between 10:00 am and 22:00 pm on first day (every 2 hours). Guests should provide arrival/return flight schedules at time of booking or at least 3 business days prior to departure. Airport meeting: guide wearing yellow uniform, holding yellow flag or iPad with provider icon. For domestic flights, proceed to Baggage Claim area. For international flights, proceed through immigration, Baggage Claim, and Customs before meeting guide at Passenger Exit (near 7-Eleven). Paid 24-hour pickup available at $120 one-way (up to 5 pax). Phoenix city group guests check in hotel independently.
Los Angeles - Salvation Mountain - Phoenix
Morning drive from Los Angeles to Sunnylands (45 mins, 115 mi). Visit Sunnylands estate with art collection including works by Picasso, Van Gogh, Andrew Wyeth, and Monet, surrounded by eucalyptus and olive trees. Continue to Shields Date Garden. Afternoon drive to Salvation Mountain (75 mi, 1.5 hours) - a desert landmark featuring Leonard's tribute to God with message 'God Is Love' and biblical art installations. Drive to Arizona Capitol Museum (255 mi, 4.5 hours) for exterior visit - building made from Arizona materials including malapai, granite, and copper dome. Arrive Phoenix and stay overnight in Tempe.
Phoenix - Saguaro National Park - Deming
Morning drive to Biosphere 2 (110 mi, 2 hours) - miniature artificial ecological system, man-made ecosystem sealed from outside world, now science museum and tourist attraction. Visit Pima Air & Space Museum (45 mi, 1 hour) - one of world's largest non-governmental aerospace museums with nearly 300 aircraft displayed over 80 acres. Afternoon visit San Xavier del Bac Mission (10 mi, 20 mins) - historic Spanish Catholic mission built 1783-1797, oldest European structure in Arizona. Visit Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum (17 mi, 30 mins) - founded 1952, composite of plant, animal, and geologic collections. Visit Saguaro National Park (368 sq km, divided east/west sections) featuring giant saguaro cactus forests, desert landscape with mountain cactus forests and pine trees. Overnight Deming, New Mexico.
White Sands National Park - Carlsbad Caverns National Park - Roswell
After breakfast, depart Deming for White Sands National Park (130 mi, 2 hours) - desert formed by white gypsum weathering with massive undulating dunes covering approximately 300 miles. Remember to wear sunglasses to avoid snow blindness. Drive to Carlsbad Caverns National Park (200 mi, 3.5 hours) - diverse array of caves creating underground world, UNESCO World Heritage Site (1955), featured in 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' film, home to numerous bat species. Drive to Roswell (100 mi, 1.5 hours) - world-renowned UFO capital.
Roswell - Santa Fe - Albuquerque
After breakfast, travel to Old Santa Fe (200 mi, 3 hours) with vibrant outdoor market, historic buildings, art galleries, museums, trendy restaurants, and shops. Visit Santa Fe Plaza (60 mins) - National Historic Landmark in downtown Santa Fe in traditional Spanish-American colonial style, center gathering place in town, home to Fiestas de Santa Fe, Spanish Market, Bandstand, Indian Market. After breakfast, explore Sedona (3 hours, optional Sedona Trolley) - Red Rock Country renowned for its aura, one of world's most powerful locations attracting millions annually, mysterious place believed to possess supernatural spirituality and ancient sacred Native American site. Visit Chapel of the Holy Cross - Roman Catholic chapel built into buttes with 90 ft tall iron cross on southwestern wall serving aesthetic and structural purposes. Afternoon travel along Route 66 (300 mi, 4.75 hours) - America's Mother Road, also known as Will Rogers Highway and Main Street of America, established November 11, 1926, originally ran from Chicago through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona to Santa Monica Los Angeles (2,448 miles total), famous for song 'Get Your Kicks on Route 66'. Explore Death Valley National Park (120 mi, 2 hours from Las Vegas) - hottest and driest region in North America, lowest point on North American continent, largest national park in mainland. Features unique geology with sand dunes, sandstone, colorful rocks, volcanic craters, salt lakes, undulating mountains, multicolored rocks, and intertwining layers of color. Drive back to Los Angeles (240 mi, 3.5 hours) from Death Valley. Breathtaking scenery of peaks and ravines.
Los Angeles - 17-Mile Drive - San Francisco
Depart Los Angeles morning, journey through fertile Central California Plains (330 mi, 6 hours) - home to over half of nation's fruits, vegetables, nuts, making California nation's largest agricultural state. Afternoon arrive Monterey Peninsula.
