Frankfurt - Karlovy Vary - Prague
Depart from Frankfurt, Germany in the morning and cross the border into the Czech Republic in the afternoon. First arrive at Karlovy Vary, a spa town with spa corridors and magnificent Baroque buildings founded by King Charles IV of Bohemia in 1370. It is the most famous and largest spa resort in the Czech Republic. Appreciate the architecture and sip mineral water. Then proceed to Prague, the ancient capital of Eastern Europe, known as the medieval gem and Golden City. The spires and domes of ancient buildings appear magnificent under the setting sun, exuding a quaint atmosphere. Morning: Drive from Frankfurt to Karlovy Vary (380km, 4.5 hours). Visit Karlovy Vary - view the Market Hot Spring Corridor with pure wooden structure and green roof, white columns, and hollow design. See the Mill Hot Spring Corridor, more than 130 meters long with more than 100 columns, with 12 allegorical statues representing the 12 months of the year. Afternoon: Drive from Karlovy Vary to Prague (128km, 1 hour 40 minutes). Arrive in Prague in the evening.
Prague - Bratislava
Explore Prague, the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic and a renowned tourist destination with architecture spanning various historical periods and styles. Prague's architecture is characterized by vibrant rooftops, striking visual experience. Known as one of Europe's most beautiful cities, it was the first city in the world designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Morning: Visit Prague Castle - one of the largest coherent castle complexes in the world with palaces and ecclesiastical buildings from Romanesque (10th century) through Gothic (14th century) styles. Visit Old Royal Palace (built 12th century, residence of Bohemian kings, later ruled by Habsburg family) with white walls and red roof. Visit St. George's Basilica (founded 920, dedicated to Saint George, primarily Romanesque in style). Visit Golden Lane - colorful vibrant townhouses with modest dwellings, the last remainder of small-scale architecture of Prague Castle. See Charles Bridge - 14th century stone bridge linking two sides of Prague, main pedestrian route connecting Old Town with Lesser Town and Prague Castle. Afternoon: Drive from Prague to Bratislava (328km, 3.5 hours). Visit Old City Center - city hall clock tower, square (30 minutes).
Bratislava - Budapest
Arrive in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, known as the "Paris of Eastern Europe" and "Pearl of the Danube". The city is divided by the Danube River - west bank is Buda, east bank is Pest. Visit Heroes' Square celebrating the founding of the country and commemorating the Magyar League. Visit Hungarian Parliament Building, the largest building in Hungary with Gothic Revival style design. Check in at Elizabeth Bridge built to commemorate Princess Sissi, spanning the beautiful Danube connecting Buda and Pest. Visit Fisherman's Bastion and Matthias Church where successive Hungarian kings were crowned. During dinner time, choose either Danube River Cruise or Hungarian National Ball with authentic cuisine. Morning: Drive from Bratislava to Budapest (200km, 2 hours). Visit Heroes' Square (15 minutes) - central square of Budapest, place of history, art and politics. Built to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of Hungary's founding, completed in 1896, with angel Gabriel on monument holding crown of King Stephen, symbolizing Hungary became Christian country. Visit Hungarian Parliament Building (15 minutes, outside visit) - typical neo-Gothic style, built early 20th century, magnificent building with two tall white stone towers. Inside see portraits of Hungarian historical celebrities and murals depicting Hungarian historical events. All day: Visit Elisabeth Bridge (pass by) - pure white and exquisite, connects Buda and Pest, named after Austro-Hungarian Queen Elizabeth (Princess Sissi) assassinated 1898, known as most elegant bridge on Danube. Visit Fisherman's Bastion (15 minutes, outside visit) - two-story white building complex combining neo-Gothic, neo-Romanesque and Hungarian local architectural styles, rated most impressive in Hungary. Used to be defended by fishermen in Middle Ages, hence the name. Known as Budapest observation deck with bird's eye view of Budapest scenery. Visit Matthias Church (15 minutes, outside visit) - neo-Gothic exterior with Hungarian folklore, Art Nouveau style and Turkish design, intricately carved stone spires and colorful mosaic roofs, tall bell tower making building light. Coronation ceremonies of all Hungarian kings held here, known as "Coronation Church". Evening: Optional Danube River Cruise (1.5 hours) to see Parliament Building, Museum, City Hall, Margaret Bridge, Chain Bridge, Elizabeth Bridge, Liberty Bridge, Petofi Bridge. OR Optional Hungarian National Ball (1 hour) with authentic cuisine.
Budapest - Vienna
After breakfast, depart for Vienna, the capital of Austria and famous metropolis in Europe. The atmosphere of classical music and art is strong here, known as the "World Music Capital". When stopping by streets of this city full of vibrant notes, encounter romantic scenes easily. Morning: Drive from Budapest to Vienna (244km, 3 hours). Visit Ring Road: Austrian Parliament Building (outside visit) - located beside Ringstrasse in center of Vienna, originally Austrian Parliament under Habsburg Dynasty, with famous Athena statue holding token representing justice and goddess of victory. Sculptures under feet symbolize four major rivers of Austro-Hungarian Empire: Danube, Rhine, Elbe and Moldova. Seven Corinthian columns on main facade are magnificent, triangular eaves carved with scene of Emperor Franz I issuing constitutions to 17 nations. Visit Hofburg (outside visit) - official residence and workplace of President of Austria, formerly principal imperial palace of Habsburg dynasty, built in 13th century and expanded several times. Visit Heldenplatz - square in Vienna where important events occurred, including Hitler's announcement of German-Austrian merger in 1938. Statues of Archduke Karl and Prince Eugen at both ends, outer square of Hofburg Palace built during Emperor Franz Joseph I's reign. All day: Visit Vienna State Opera (outside visit) - one of top opera addresses in world with first-class productions and different program every day: around 50 operas and ballet works per season danced by Vienna State Ballet. Visit Stadtpark - located east side of Vienna Ring Road built along Vienna River, flower clock, lawns, bird flocks and musician statues form beautiful scene. Visit Domkirche St. Stephan - landmark building and one of three largest cathedrals in Europe. Built in 1147 originally as Roman church, large-scale reconstruction ordered by Rudolf IV in 14th century. After being burned in WWII, rebuilt several times into Gothic cathedral. Bishop's seat since late 15th century. Main building and three towers with towering conical spire, colorful roof inlaid with green and yellow mosaic tiles, armband pattern and double-headed eagle representing Habsburg dynasty. Interior rebuilt several times integrating various European architectural arts. Colorful stained glass windows form dreamy halo. Afternoon: Visit Schönbrunn Palace (15 minutes, outside visit) - one of Europe's most beautiful Baroque complexes, in Habsburg possession since 1569. Wife of Emperor Ferdinand II had pleasure palace built in 1642 called "Schönbrunn". Redesigned 1696 onwards after Vienna siege, completely redesigned under Maria Theresa after 1743. UNESCO World Heritage site due to historical significance, unique layout and magnificent furnishings. Visit Schönbrunn Palace Garden (1 hour) - Austrian royal garden, typical French-style garden with huge flower beds flanked by neatly trimmed green tree walls, containing 44 statues of Greek mythology characters. "Poseidon Fountain" at end, "Fountain of Beauty" to east (origin of palace name). Man-made Roman ruins and obelisk opposite Fountain of Beauty. Arc de Triomphe at highest point, zoo and tropical plant greenhouse west of Neptune Fountain. If guests wish to visit Schönbrunn Palace at their own expense, may enter during this time slot. Vienna - Hallstatt - Munich
In the morning, set off for Hallstatt, known as one of the most beautiful towns in the world. The town is surrounded by the Alps with clear rippling lake like dreamlike fairyland and fairy tale world, postcard attraction in Austria. Then head towards Munich, Germany, and after arriving, visit the center of Munich's old town - Marienplatz. Morning: Drive from Vienna to Hallstatt (287km, 3.5 hours). Visit Hallstatt - known as most magnificent and charming part of Austria. Salzkammergut covering more than 3,000 square kilometers has been summer resort and hunting destination for Austrian and German nobles since mid-19th century. Hallstatt is beautiful pearl in Salzkammergut Lake District, one of most beautiful towns in Austria, listed as world natural and cultural heritage. Ancient market built on mountain and overlapping wooden houses are characteristics. Stroll in picturesque streets of Hallstatt. Afternoon: Drive from Hallstatt to Munich (205km, 2.5 hours). Visit Marienplatz (30 minutes) - built 1158, largest and most important square in Munich. Because new and old town halls of Munich located around square, Marienplatz known as "living room" of Munich. Now transportation hub for Munich, place for cultural activities and leisure entertainment for citizens. Bayern Munich football team celebrates victories here. New town hall and adjacent Frauenkirche with two twin towers with green "onion-shaped" spires constitute eternal theme of Munich postcards.
Munich - Vaduz - Titlis - Lucerne - Zurich
After breakfast, head to Switzerland, known as the Garden of the World, passing through Vaduz, capital of small European country Liechtenstein, famous for Alpine landscape, hiking trails and stamps. Cross mountains to Engelberg Mountains in central Switzerland to visit Titlis Snow Mountain. Take rotating mountain cable car to Titlis Peak at 3,000 meters above sea level covered with snow year-round. After 45 minutes reach snow mountain peak to visit ice cave and walk on snow viewing platform with surrounding peaks and glaciers in full view. Have lunch at mountaintop restaurant. Then go to picturesque city of Lucerne to see Lion Monument carved on cliff praising loyalty and bravery of Swiss nation. Stroll through quaint streets full of boutiques, buy authentic specialty chocolates and souvenirs, or go to watch shop to buy Swiss watches. Morning: Drive from Munich to Vaduz, capital of Liechtenstein (250km, 3 hours). Afternoon: Drive from Vaduz to Titlis (182km, 2.5 hours). Visit Titlis Snow Mountain - optional activity (2 hours). Afternoon: Drive from Titlis to Lucerne (40km, 50 minutes). Visit Lion Monument - wounded lion statue designed and carved by Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen, built to commemorate 786 Swiss officers and guards who died protecting King Louis XVI and Queen Marie during French Revolution in 1792. Intended to pray for world peace. Text describing incident below monument. American novelist Mark Twain praised Lucerne lion as "saddest and most touching stone sculpture in world."
Zurich - Rhine Falls - Titisee - Frankfurt
Begin by visiting Lake Zurich and taking souvenir photos by the lake. Travel to Innohausen to admire mighty Rhine Falls resembling galloping horse. Cascading waterfalls are breathtaking. Travel through Swiss mountains into Germany's Black Forest, admiring renowned mountain lake Titisee (formerly called Dietzensee), largest natural lake in Black Forest. Titisee's azure waters contrast beautifully with azure sky, white clouds, and lush trees, creating illusion of "traveling within painting". This area known for cuckoo clock production with interesting clocks for sale everywhere. Guide explains manufacturing process. Enjoy hearty pork knuckle lunch and authentic Black Forest cake at lakeside restaurant at own expense. Then return to Frankfurt. Morning: Visit Lake Zurich (15 minutes, outside visit) - famous glacial lake in Switzerland, 406 meters above sea level, crescent-shaped. Lakeshore gently sloping covered with vineyards and orchards. To south can see Alps in distance. Medieval cobblestone paths along river for tourists to walk by lake and enjoy picturesque scenery. Morning: Drive from Zurich to Rhine Falls (47km, 35 minutes). Visit Rheinfall (15 minutes, outside visit) - Europe's largest and most spectacular waterfall, small town of Schaffhausen on Rhine River filled with roar of mighty army. Rhine Falls formed 14,000-17,000 years ago with staircase carved into rock allowing close experience. Can head to other side of falls for different perspective. Restaurant near falls perfect for bite and rest. Can walk from train station to falls seeing surrounding houses and tree-lined riverbank path. Morning: Drive from Rhine Falls to Titisee (73km, 1 hour). Visit Titisee (30 minutes) - lake in southern Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg meaning "Maiden's Lake" in German. Formed by Feldberg Glacier, located on mountain 850 meters above sea level. Largest alpine lake in Germany with drinking water quality. Rich green of Black Forest reflected in pure water surface of Titisee, birds' natural singing create romantic atmosphere. On north bank is hot spring town of same name, part of Titisee-Neustadt city. Famous specialty is exquisitely made cuckoo clock said to be cuckoo wall clock carved from wood by Black Forest residents to kill boredom of long winter. Afternoon: Lunch at lakeside restaurant at own expense - hearty pork knuckle and authentic Black Forest cake. Afternoon: Drive from Titisee to Frankfurt (300km, 3.5 hours).
